Dr. Lee's Sinus School #5: Sleep Apnea Treatment

Please note that people with snoring or sleep apnea syndrome should neither neglect nor opt to have a surgery. This must be considered as a signal sent by the cerebrum to look after the sinuses.

What is Sleep Apnea

Snoring and sleep apneas can be distinguished by their degree of blockage in the respiratory tract. Snoring, while their airway is constricted, does not stop breathing, however, a completely blocked airway does not allow air to pass. If such condition lasts more than 10 seconds, it could be diagnosed as sleep apnea syndrome. It is required to check first, whether the patient subject to care breathe through the mouth during sleeping. Even though there is no signs of mouth breathing, restoring the ventilation in the nasal cavity and sinuses holds the primary importance. Concurrently, check the size of the pharynx, larynx and tonsils to determine whether obesity requires to be dealt with.

In conjunction with acupuncture therapy, it can decongest the affected area, bringing the cure without a surgical operation.

The Level of Snoring

Stage 0: Clear inhaling with no sound during a deep sleep - Healthy
Stage 1: Slight snoring at the beginning of a deep sleep - Good
Stage 2: Periodical snoring - Slightly blocked sinuses
Stage 3: Repeat loud and soft snoring Heavily congested sinuses
Stage 4: No snoring, but breathing through the mouth - Worse than Stage 3
Stage 5: Sleeping with an open mouth
Stage 6: Possible sleep apnea syndrome

Sleep apnea becomes apparent at stage 6, much of the ostiomeatal complex is constricted, inducing severe breathing difficulty. While this stage of sleep apnea is very critical, stage 4 requires the utmost attention to diagnose. Most patients do not snore at that stage, but they are unaware of mouth breathing without snoring is more critical than snoring with their mouth closed.

I can assure that restoring the ventilation in the nasal cavity and paranasal sinuses can improve snoring as well as sleep apnea in every stage of snoring.

on sinusitits and rhinitis which contains 25 years of experience as oriental medical doctor, specialized in sinusitis treatment without receiving a surgery.

No Surgery to Sinusitis, Rhinitis and Snoring (Dr. Lee's Sinus School)

No Surgery to Sinusitis, Rhinitis and Snoring (Dr. Lee's Sinus School)

I am Dr. LEE, CEO of Cosoom Clinic Networks. I have 25 years of experience
in treating sinusitis, rhinitis, snoring and sleep apnea. With an acupuncture therapy, I have been treating those problems. Here, I explain why a rhinitis or a sinus surgery is harmful.

Rhinitis Surgery & Sinus Surgery

Generally, removing swollen nasal mucosa to secure the nasal passage is rhinitis surgery and sinus surgery involves with removing part of bone to restore the airway for breathing and to eradicate infection once for all.

Function of Sinuses and nasal passages

Unblocking the airway of the nasal passages and paranasal sinuses would be the primary goal of the treatment, if those merely function as air passages. However, it is never to be neglected those jointly act as a cooling fan in a computer to dissipate heat of the head.

Nasal passages and paransal sinuses function as a cooling fan to dissipate heat of your head.

As the water flows from the mountain to valleys, it deepens the waterways in the valleys as time passes. Likewise, rudimentary nasal cavity and paranasal sinuses are shaped by the air flow inside the nose in a meticulous way, in order for it to reach every inch and corner of the sinuses.

They are perfectly designed which air can circulate throughout the area. Artificial destruction of the delicate structure should never be considered and must be deterred in the first place.

Acupuncture therapy that can preserve the structure is highly preferable. It does not only restore the functions of the mucosa but also retrieves the air ventilation, making it a patient-friendly treatment.

Acupunture therapy helps restore the functions of mucosa and retrieve the air ventilation!

Patients can express their discomfort and feelings as they receive their treatments and the doctors can comprehend and communicate with the patient under their care.

Acupuncture, although it accompanies some degree of pain, but it is never irreversible and have many benefits attached with it; it is more detailed, meticulous and effective than surgery.

Once again, nasal cavities and sinuses are necessary in order to act  as a cooling fan and an air ventilation, if you receive a rhinitis or a sinus surgery, it will change the original structure of your sinuses. This will cause the changes in air flows of your nose. Then your sinuses can not effectively function as a cooling fan.

Do not receive a surgery, receive an acupuncture therapy instead.

If you wish to know more about the method, please refer to the book
"The Sinus School" that contains 25 years of experience in treating
nasal problems. www.amazon.com

Reasons for Sinusitis & Treatment of Sinusitis through Acupuncture (Causes & Remedies)

If the inflammation is remained only at the nasal mucosa, it is diagnosed as rhinitis; however, if it spreads to the membranes in the paranasal sinuses, and constant discharge of purulent exudate was observed, it is diagnosed as empyema or more commonly known as sinusitis.

Sinusitis Development

Sinusitis is caused by an infection from a virus or bacteria. When the common cold virus, which is much smaller in size than bacteria, enters through the nose, majority of the people who are healthy can recover within a week. To explain why the common cold turned into sinusitis in anatomical perspective is the swelling of the nasal mucosa blocked the entrance of the paranasal sinuses.

Dr. Lee's Specialized Method to Treat Sinusitis: LWM Apply

Inferior to the middle turbinate, there are ostia connecting the frontal sinuses, ethmoid sinuses, and maxillary sinuses. When the mucous membrane lining of the nose is swollen due to a cold, the secretion glands continue to induce mucus but drainage ducts have been blocked. Then, the obstructed paranasal sinuses collect mucus inside. This facilitates bacterial growth in the membranes submerged in the pool of mucus and the paranasal sinuses are infected. The paranasal sinuses with obstructed ostia become an ideal environment for bacteria to multiply; this will result in sinusitis. This sinusitis is often difficult to treat with antibiotics to control the inflammation, subsequently; a surgical removal of the inflamed membranes is practiced. However, this is not the fundamental treatment to cure sinusitis.

LWM is a therapy that connects with patients. Every patient may complain of nasal congestion, but through the treatment process, which includes Q&A with patients, it reveals the affected regions all differ from patient to patient. Therefore, patient-centered focus should be intrinsic to the practice of the method which allows to precisely identify the source of the problems through communicating and customizes its treatments for individual patients.

LWM therapy centers around restoring the functions of the nasal parts. The limited view on the nasal cavity and paranasal sinuses recognize them only as a part of the respiratory tract, therefore surgical exegesis of body parts in order to secure the airway is justified. But every part in the body has their own reason for their existence. The nasal cavity and paranasal sinuses serve more than as airways; those perform as a cooling fan in a computer, a cooling device for the head. LWM is founded on the understanding the unique features of the paranasal sinuses, accordingly, it restores their original functions without undermining any of their anatomical structure.

Dr. Lee's Sinus School: Seon Eco-village News~ (A day without electricity)

Hello~
You know I live in an eco-village. 6 years ago my clinc was in the center of metropolitan city, Seoul, Korea. Yet, one day in 2011, I made up my mind to open a clinic in a countryside where many people do not enjoy medical benefits as much as they do in cities. Besides, one of the significant reasons that made me move the clinic was that lots of patiets suffering from nasal problems have something to do with environmental pollution we experience thesedays.

Living on a vegetable food, naturally grown in a local area and regular excercise help you improve
your condition a lot. = )

Here is a news from Seon eco-village (www. suseonjae.com)

It was what happened on the day called "a day without electricity"

A day without electricity in Seon eco-village

Once a month we have a day without a electricity. This day we don't use electricity as literally.
Instead we have an concert for people living in a community. All seon village people and those who live near our village, or cities come and enjoy the concert! Mr. Lee do the commencement remarks celebrating the concert!

This is called sa mul no ri - a concert played with foud instruments
It is Korean traditional musical play

At night we had a camp fire hand in hand. We call it ganggang suwolrae in Korean.

By going around hand in hand, the villagers get together more closely

The behind scene of the stage.
You shouldn't forget those who make efforts who work for those who shine on the stage
The characteristics of seon eco village is that people here meditate every morning.
In the morning, villagers meditate and purify their minds and body.
I think whether you believe in meditation, a regular activity that purifies your mind is
necessary in our lives.

Dr. Lee's Sinus School: Vegetarian Diet and Sinus Treatment

Dr. Lee's Sinus School: Vegetarian Diet and Sinus Treatment

Treating my patients I see it has a lot to do with environmental pollution.
Patients suffering from allergic rhinitis.

Chemical Fertilizers, Agrichemicals, GMOs, and Seed Manipulation

So I recommend my patients during their treatment period
to stay at the clinic. This is located in an eco-village and patients
take in foods that village people grew without using chemical fertilizer and locally grown vegetables.
Watching my patients, I realized just to stay in an area whose air is clean and to take in vegetables, their health condition get a lot better and immunizing system recover fast.

Besides to that, I ask them to eat brown rice.

Actually a lot of diseases are from your way of life style, environmental elements where you live and people you meet. Therefore, the best way to recoever it is that you find your original state back quickly.

It is go back to nature!

One of the reasons I decided to come down to a countryside,Goheung 5 hours away from
Seoul, the metropolitan city and built a clinic here. To emphasize how environmental surroundings
have effect on your life.

Korean medicine way of treatment is therefore fundamental. It helps you to recover your original condition back. 'Cause we believe humans have their own immune system in their body. My way of aupunture therapy to treat sinusitis and rhinitis is also to help you recover your original condition.
Thus, many patients feel their sinus got better. When treatment is done, I put emphasis on  management. How to manage your sinus in your daily life is also a course of treatment. Actually, I guess it is more important thant treatment itself. You should become the doctor of your own body. Okay?

Then, here is Dr. Lee's Self Sinus Remedy

Fill a syringe with warm salt water.

Tilt your head so that one nostril is pointed down toward the sink and insert the tip of the syringe into your nose.

Gently squeeze the syringe.

The salt water goes into the nose and drains out the same way and exits to the sink. Occasionally, some portion of the water passes through the other side of the nose. Any water that goes to the back of the throat should be spit out.

Repeat on the other side in the same way.

Q & A

Where does the salt water go?
Most of it goes into the nasal cavity and comes straight out. It is rare that water gets into the paranasal sinuses. There may be a small amount of water gets into the sinuses, however, it does not cause concern. Suctioning after a nasal irrigation is proven to be very refreshing.

What should I do about, using salt water still stings the nose. What should I do?
Adjusting the salinity of the water makes it easier for the nasal mucosa. Saline solution is particularly recommendable, because of its salinity replicates the mucus' natural salinity. Saline concentration at different level may irritate the membranes, prompting more mucus secretion. Therefore, it may require you to blow the nose several times after the flushing. So, it is best to wash your nasal cavity with appropriate salinity.

Would it be better to use distilled or boiled water?
Not necessarily. Salt added distilled or sterilized water is optional, not a must. Regular tap water is more than adequate and no harmful micro-organisms would be introduced into the nose. For first time, using saline solution being sold at pharmacy is recommendable. Use it until your mucosa adjust to the salinity level comfortably.

How many times a day should I do it?
When you first begin, doing twice a day is recommended; once in the morning and once in the evening. The membranes of the nose come in direct contact with the air, just as your face. Hence, it is good to be washed. If you caught a cold, you can do as many times as you want to clear your congested nose.

It hurts my ears when I blow my nose after nasal irrigation.
At first, you may feel your inner ears being stimulated by nasal irrigation, as if water got into your ears. Even so, you should continue to do it twice a day, in the morning and in the evening. People may concern the water might get into the Eustachian tube to cause an ear infection. The fact is, when air is breathed into the nasal passages, it creates the air flow to drain out water from the Eustachian tube and middle ear cavity, to maintain an appropriate condition.

The temporary ear pain associated with nose blowing is normal. However, if it reoccurs every time when you flush or blow your nose, it warrants concern. This could be an inflammation in the joint area where the nasal cavity and middle ear cavity are connected or it could be due to the lingering effect derived from a past otitis media episode. The area that connects the Eustachian tube with the nasal cavity is likely to have a swelling, being overly sensitive to perceive stimuli as pain. In such case, it does not mean you should stop carry out but it is a sign that you need an appropriate treatment in that area. Panoramic acupuncture, which involves with penetrating a needle into the palate to reach the Eustachian tube, effectively treats the symptom. There are also people who reluctantly live with pain in the Eustachian tube whenever they yawn or swallow saliva. I can assure that these are also treatable.
